10 Free and Easy Ways to Improve Your Alexa Ranking

Alexa, which is owned by Amazon.com, gives away a free toolbar that you can download and install in your browser. Alexa is then able to keep track of the sites you visit and compute the traffic ranking of those websites, with a rank of "1" being the assigned to the most visited site.

If you want a more technical definition, Alexa explains it like this:

"The traffic rank is based on three months of aggregated historical traffic data from millions of Alexa Toolbar users and data obtained from other, diverse traffic data sources, and is a combined measure of page views and users (reach). As a first step, Alexa computes the reach and number of page views for all sites on the Web on a daily basis. The main Alexa traffic rank is based on a value derived from these two quantities averaged over time (so that the rank of a site reflects both the number of users who visit that site as well as the number of pages on the site viewed by those users)."

In April 2008 Alexa revised its methodology so as to "aggregate data from multiple sources to give you a better indication of website popularity among the entire population of Internet users".

http://awis.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html

How accurately this method reflects the actual surfing patterns of all Internet users is open to question. However, if you bear in mind that by the end of 2005 the toolbar had been downloaded well over 10 million times you will realize why many people still think that Alexa offers one of the best approximations that we have of website ranking, especially for the top 100,000 or so websites.

That is why Alexa remains an important measure of a website's status and is used as a quick way to assess the popularity of a website by advertisers looking for the maximum exposure for the their money. Websites with a higher Alexa ranking also tend to be trusted more than those with a low ranking, so it is in the interest of website owners to get their sites ranked as highly as possible with Alexa.

Here are some quick and easy tips to help you do that without spending a single dollar!

1. Install the Alexa toolbar and set your website as your homepage.

2. Copy and paste an Alexa rank widget onto your website. You can get the widget code at http://www.alexa.com/site/site_stats/signup. As well as informing your visitors about your Alexa rank, it will also keep Alexa updated about the number of unique visitors surfing your site.

3. Create a customized version of the Alexa tool bar, Then place a link on your site to the download page and invite your visitors to download it. You will also earn Amazon commissions every time a user shops on Amazon via the toolbar link.

4. If you have a Wordpress blog there is a plug-in for Alexa Ranking (wp-Alexa-redirect-0.3plug-in) that you can use. Editor's Note: This plugin may no longer work.

5. Submit your site to web directories. Although a lot of directories charge a registration fee, you can still find many that are willing to list your site free of charge or in exchange for a reciprocal link. A lot of the webmasters who browse web directories have the Alexa bar installed, so if they click your link it will help your Alexa traffic rank.

6. Become an active participant on Internet marketing and SEO forums. Again, a lot of those forum participants are already webmasters and a high percentage will use the Alexa toolbar

7. A lot of Asian and Australian websites feature in the Alexa top 100,000 and you can bet that a lot of website owners will have the Alexa toolbar installed, so it makes sense to join social networking sites that are popular in those regions, such as:

  • http://www.orkut.com - Orkut is owned by Google and is the second most visited site in India.

  • http://hi5.com - Hi5 has an Alexa ranking of 17 at the time of writing this article.

8. Become an Alexa expert and post articles that discuss Alexa ranking and SEO tips. This will attract people to your site who may be interested in downloading your toolbar, or people who have already done so. Either way, it will be good for your Alexa ranking. You could even build a whole category of articles on your website devoted to this theme.

9. Set up a freebie page on your website and post a list of useful tools to attract other website owners to your site. Include another link to your Alexa toolbar download page.

10. Get into the habit of using Stumbleupon and other bookmarking sites to spread the word whenever you post a new article on your website or blog. Set up a group of fellow website owners so that you can have run reciprocal stumbling campaigns for better results.

If you apply these ten quick and easy methods you will definitely see an improvement in your Alexa rank and you should also start to attract more traffic to your site!

when they surf. Place a link to your site in your signature and your rank will improve when any of those people click through.

Teacher in Blue Scrub Suit

Last week as I was walking to go home I passed by a group of kids and the two of them were about to box each other while the other kids were cheering for a fight, which they thought were cool. I interrupted between them, I said " Stop it, that's bad" and I went home.

After that event, I can't remember anymore what I was doing then, but it suddenly crossed my mind that isn't that its one of goal to pursue to teach kids after I chose to retire at 30 years old. How I feel guily for I missed an opportunity to know those kids. I could have sit with them and treat them for an ice cream in the nearby ice cream store then start a conversation.

Well, this coming monday I told my self why not I give it a try to teach those kids, any way there's a spare room in my workplace, instead of sleeping which I do most of the time if I don't have laboratory works. Well, I can do something worthwhile to end up my idle time, that it bores me too much. For lately I've been so conscious about time, I shouldn't have idle moment, if I'm not doing anything I must be into something like reading books. Maybe due to my Financial Literacy Education and those Robert Kiyosaki books I’ve red.

So this morning when I went out and saw the boy I've been giving a burger everytime I saw him, his name is Manny Boy. I held his hand and told him to buy him an ice cream after I teach him. He immediately replied yes, I asked him if he can bring fellow kids, he said he'll call Zaldy then he ran.

My first two sudents were Manny Boy and Zaldy. I taught them the Filipino Alphabet first then the English Alphabet. For an hour, somehow I taught them the alphabet, though I'm not a teacher in the first place and I don't even have experience teaching lessons. It was fun, especially Zaldy he's really attentive to what I'm teaching and he even told me that we have two hours class, so when I said that we're done, he asked if it's 2 P.M. already for we started at 12 o' clock. It's not yet 2 P.M., but they can comeback tomorrow again and bring kids with them.

Minutes after I dismissed them, Zaldy brought kids with him already, those kids which he brought asked me if Ican teach them too. So, I said yes just comeback tomorrow. They went then comeback again, asking me if I can teach them now, I said okay comeback at 5 P.M. for I have something to attend to.

At 5 P.M., they really came back and the 3 kids who asked me a while ago were accompanied with 10 kids. I said wow! from 2 kids to suddenly 15 kids. I let them set in the floor for there's not enough chairs. I asked what they want me to teach them, they all shouted math subject, they said Division. Okay, though I'm not good in math, really, I hate that subject when I'm in school. Anyway they are still in grade school so maybe my simple knowledge in Math will do.

At first it's so noisy and somewhat topsy-turvy, of course we know how kids are, for they all want to answer and reciting the Multiplication table in chorus. They laughed when their fellow kids said a wrong answer. When someone went to the bathroom, some kids followed so the bathroom was flooded even outside the bathroom the floor was wet. But, I didn't get mad, ha ha ha.... when they're noisy I was the one who keep quiet. I asked them if they want to learn they should keep quiet. They kept quiet for a while then again, noisiness followed. Still, our class went pretty well.

While I was walking home, I just don't know why but I'm cheerful and I'm even smiling so big while walking. I don't wanna exaggerate, but I felt I was feeling light and excited about going to work tomorrow.

They even went back, asked me if they can comeback at 5 P.M. after their classes in school and if they will bring notebook.

As I was writing this, I'm remembering their faces, I saw how excited they were, how happy they were that somebody is giving time to teach them, they even called it a tutorial. The tutor thing is so big for them, because here in my country only well off parents can afford to hire a tutor for their children.

Teacher is what they called me.

For them I’m a teacher wearing a blue scrub suit writing in a white board.

Today I started tutoring kids I still don’t remember their names, only their faces and noisiness.

Africans elated by first black U.S. president

Celebrations erupted in Barack Obama's ancestral home in Kenya and across Africa as the U.S. Democratic candidate made history by being elected America's first African-American president.

In K'Ogelo, a small village of less than 1,000 people where Obama's late father was born, nicknamed the "epicenter for Obamamania," cheers and dancing broke out when Obama's victory was announced shortly after 7 a.m. local time.

Obama's grandmother, half-brother and relatives eagerly watched the election results, while in the capital Nairobi, revelers marched and danced through the streets to sirens and whistles, singing Obama's name and carrying and waving American flags.

Residents picked up the president-elect's half-brother Malik and carried him through the village, The Associated Press reported. "Unbelievable!" Malik shouted, leading the family in chanting, "Obama's coming, make way!"

Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki called Obama's election "a momentous day not only in the history of the United States of America, but also for us in Kenya. The victory of Senator Obama is our own victory because of his roots here in Kenya. As a country, we are full of pride for his success."

Obama's grandmother dies after battle with cancer

Sen. Barack Obama's grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, has died following a bout with cancer.

At a rally in Charlotte, North Carolina, Monday night, the Illinois senator said "she has gone home and she died peacefully in her sleep with my sister at her side."

"I'm not going to talk about it long because it's hard to talk about," he added.

Obama remembered her as "one of those quiet heroes we have across America, who aren't famous ... but each and every day they work hard. They look after their families. They look after their children and their grandchildren."
